Discovering La Cala de Mijas

La Cala de Mijas has always been a town that was mainly dedicated to agriculture and fishing, like many other coastal towns.

La Cala del Moral Battery Tower

Its proximity to the sea always played against it, due to the constant pirate attacks, from this period there remains in La Cala de Mijas a tower that formed part of the defensive system spread along the Andalusian coast.

The Torre de La Cala del Moral is the only tower that can be found in La Cala de Mijas, although there are others scattered throughout the municipality. This tower was built during the 18th century and has two floors and a rooftop terrace. The chimney through which the alarm was given when enemy ships were sighted near the coast is still preserved.

Unlike many other towers that have been abandoned today, the Mijas Tower is the headquarters of the Watchtowers Interpretation Centre.
